Aren't they a week late???

Further to my earlier post this morning we now have the results of this mornings unionist talks at Schomberg House. Maybe its just me, but I think that the Ulster Unionist Party must have gotten their dates mixed up. With proposals like these surely they would have been more at home at last Friday's Comic Relief!

What is the benefit of a unionist pact in East Belfast, Strangford, North Down, Upper Bann, East Londonderry, East Antrim, South Antrim, North Antrim or Lagan Valley? Are we to suspect that some people think that Basil McCrea is going to inflict such a savage electoral mauling on wee Jeffrey that Paul Butler will streak through the middle and become the newest Honourable Member to represent James Molyneaux's old seat?

Maybe the motivation is the neighbouring one to Jeffrey's and that of his old sparring partner the Rt Hon Member for Upper Bann, David Trimble. Could electoral self preservation be the motivating factor for Davy's talks proposals?

Also, lets spare a thought for Bobby Saulters. Fair play to him for arranging the talks and going out of his way to help bring the parties together. However, I'm sure he has better things to do with his time than waste it with people bringing forward ludicrous proposals without any room for negotiations.

Finally. The one woman who is now rubbing her hands more than ever is Michellle Gildernew. Get out the spray cans in Garrison, yes its "well done David" yet again.
